About Claire

Claire Wong Black resolves disputes. Her practice focuses on litigation, arbitration, and efficient resolution of complex commercial matters. She handles all aspects of litigation—from pre-suit investigations to large-scale electronic discovery to post-judgment enforcement—and has argued successfully before the Hawai`i Supreme Court. Claire also provides crisis management and legal and strategic advice to corporate clients. In addition to commercial litigation, Claire maintains a substantial civil rights practice focused on public interest impact litigation.

She was raised in Honolulu, Hawai`i and is a graduate of Punahou School and the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa. Claire obtained a degree in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music and her juris doctor from Fordham University. She began her legal career at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal (now known as Dentons) in New York City, litigating for and against Fortune 500 companies for five years before returning home to join Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing in 2011.

Claire is an officer of the Federal Bar Association, Hawai`i chapter, and a 2016 Hawai`i State Bar Association Leadership Institute Fellow. In 2015, she received Hawai`i Appleseed’s Voices for the People Award in recognition of her public interest advocacy on behalf of underserved populations.
