Richard Kowen has over 30 years experience litigating cases in Hawaii in the areas of construction law, premises and product liability, personal injury defense and medical malpractice defense. He has represented large retailers, building and construction companies, hospitals and a variety of other businesses with headquarters in Hawai`i, on the U.S. Mainland and overseas.

Kowen finds practical, cost-effective solutions to his client's disputes and seeks to keep them out of the courtroom whenever possible. Should litigation become unavoidable, however, Kowen is an aggressive and seasoned litigator who has a record of obtaining favorable decisions for his clients in both jury and bench trials.

Recent Representative Cases

• Obtained a favorable ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in a personal injury case affirming a defense verdict in favor of his client, a nationally known retailer. The plaintiff appealed the judgment of the lower court claiming that the defendant's failure to preserve potentially damaging evidence should have resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff.
